Iowa DOT announces new construction for those traveling to Council Bluffs

There are some new upcoming closures and detours to be aware of. In addition to the I-480 east-bound closure in Omaha from Aug. 23 until Sept. 23, there will be ongoing construction activities on the I-29/I-480/West Broadway System Interchange. This will lead to temporary lane, ramp and road closures. Officials ask that you plan ahead and follow detours.

Hawkins opens 180th Street Phase 2 ahead of schedule

Hawkins Construction Company opened phase 2 of Douglas County’s 180th Street project to traffic on Friday, Nov. 4 - two months ahead of schedule. This last leg of the project, between Blondo Street and West Maple Road, completes a four-lane link between West Dodge Road and West Maple Road.

Stretch of Q Street closes for 6 months

A long-term road closure started Monday morning. Q Street between 61st and 72nd Streets will be closed for about six months. Hawkins Construction told 3 News Now that it’s removing and replacing those sections, and adding a center turn lane, part of the development with the new casino in the area at Horseman’s Park.

Plan to end traffic deaths on Omaha streets

The word “slow” cautions drivers to reduce their speed on Farnam Street, seen here looking west from 38th Street. Omaha city leaders last April outlined a pilot program to improve pedestrian safety in Blackstone. The program converted the middle lane on Farnam Street from 36th to 40th Street into a left-turn-only lane. The program marked the first significant step toward the city’s Vision Zero goal.
